Dubai: The UAE is making significant advancements in increasing women's participation in the technology sector, particularly in the audio industry.
Shure, a global leader in audio technology, is actively promoting gender inclusion, with a third of its UAE workforce being women. The company, led by President and CEO Chris Schyvinck, is taking concrete steps to ensure greater representation of women in audio, aligning its efforts with its 100-year milestone.
Following International Women’s Day on March 8, Shure reaffirmed its commitment to breaking barriers for women in the audio industry. The announcement came from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where the company has been expanding its efforts toward gender diversity. By investing in initiatives and policies that support women, Shure continues to position itself as a leader in fostering inclusivity in technology.
Shure has introduced programs like the “Women Everywhere (WE) VIBE” initiative, which provides mentorship, networking, and leadership opportunities for women in audio. The company also acknowledges the role of government-backed efforts such as the UAE Gender Balance Council and the One Million Arab Coders program in paving the way for women to thrive in STEM careers. These efforts have resulted in 56% of STEM graduates in the UAE being women, surpassing many Western nations.
The commitment to gender inclusion within Shure traces back to Rose L. Shure, who took over leadership of the company after her husband’s passing in 1995. Her contributions to the company over six decades laid the foundation for fostering diversity in the audio industry. Under Schyvinck’s leadership, the company continues to uphold this legacy through initiatives such as the IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) program, which aims to create a more inclusive work environment.
Women have historically been underrepresented in STEM fields, particularly in specialized industries like audio technology. However, with progressive government policies, corporate leadership, and community-driven efforts, the UAE has emerged as a global leader in promoting gender diversity in technology. Shure’s ongoing initiatives reflect a larger movement to ensure women are not just participants but leaders, innovators, and changemakers in the industry
